Initial stable bootable ISO of 64-bit AROS (ABIv11) is now available. This ISO is a conclusion of several years of development by multiple AROS developers and last six months of intense testing, debugging and stabilization. This initial version brings improved support for virtual environments (VirtualBox, VMware and QEMU) and for some, but not yet all, hardware supported by 32-bit version. If you'd like to learn more on what developments will follow in next months, please check our Development Plan.
deadwood, in the Contrib, in addition to the Extras/Demos "Metaballs" and "RubberStrings" which do not work, the Demos in the GL folder go to Guru on both AROS WMware and AROS Hosted Linux.
Also in the Extras/Demo folder is a scrpt named "StartEGLDemos", which points to a folder named "EGL". but the folder "EGL" does not exist.
EDIT
- Even FryingPan still goes into Guru as soon as it is executed!
- Radium (Guru)
- AMP2 (unregistered)
Games Contrib:
- LBreakout2 Guru just started
- Moria3D not working
As for GL demos, as long as you are running them with software renderer (and that is what is happening on hosted and on VMware) you need to increase stack. I tried running them from shell which has 256k stack and there is no crash.
Tried giving a Stack even higher than 256000 and I always get Guru on both Wanderer and AROS Hosted Linux, also tried with the reference Buid AROS-20250418-1
What exact cpu do you have in the machine that is running AROS hosted linux? Can you open linux console and type 'cat /proc/cpuinfo' and share the output? Crash happens when executing an SSE 4.1 / AVX instruction.
Took the screenshot, it's probably the same problem that doesn't allow me to use Native Mode on VMware.
It will probably take a new PC, but many users for AROS compatibility use old PCs like mine!
Your CPU indeed is missing required instructions. AROS in general will work on these older CPUs but certain functions, like 3D or multimedia decoding won't work correctly or won't work as good as they could. Also JIT in Odyssey will work slower or will fail.
The minimum architecture that has the needed instructions is IvyBridge / Socket 1155 / Z68 chipset released in 2011. Our recommended ASUS P8Z68V LX represents this architecture.
I tried running Protrekkr 2.8.2 on release build of AROS Hosted Linux and didn't get any crash. Can you post a screen shot of crash requester with "More..." button clicked? Are you running release build or some earlier development build?
@deadwood Greetings,I'm running AROS Latest Build 2025418 V11,Virtualbox 7.1.8 (which maybe the problem),Window reports"Could not open version 0 or higher of library"SDL library"! thanks! Every thng else seems be working properly.Doing some icon work and things are looking good!
