I got a job!

Hi everybody,

I got a job (pending my performance at training), and will be moving 400 miles to Pierre, South Dakota. I already have an apartment but won't need to be there until mid-April.

My PortablE tutorials may not be so frequent any more as a result. There is also a non-compete clause in my contract so my wxVision or ArosVision projects may have to be diverted into something Java-based if my supervisors show an interested in it.

I'll see what comes out of this in time.

I'll catch you later,

I was originally supposed to move by March 20th but they put me on hold until May 8th. They also switched job descriptions on me. I fit the new job description ok but I'll probably move in mid-April anyway.

I've moved on the 3rd of May, and started training today. I'm putting in 9 hours on M-Th but get out early on Friday. :)
Also, they put me back on Java.

@SamuraiCrow:

Oh man. Bummer. I am really sorry to hear that, i really do...

I hope you don't have too negative thoughts about that.

You will do better next time, i'm sure of it.

The thing that makes it really hurt is that it was in Java. I thought I was really good at Java. I guess I just am not fast enough and use the wrong first approaches.

That said, I now have more time to work on wxVision now. Maybe I can make it work better now that I know how Java works a little more. The hardest problem I've encountered was getting variables out of a child class without breaking encapsulation.

Cheers,

Sam

Would be nice if you could continue working on this eventually.

Please take care of yourself first.

@SamuraiCrow

Are you still in South Dakota? I heard the job picture is pretty good there. Although, when I think of IT, I think of Boston or Austin, Seattle or Sunnyvale.

Regardless, hope you're enjoying the weather, good time for a few brew-skis. Good luck!

Yes, I'm still in Pierre, SD. I'm not sure how much longer this will last. I like living in my own apartment but if I can't afford rent... I may just end up moving back in with my parents.

Bummer . . .

Extend the force and weave your way through the fog of Obamanomics . . .

Fog of Obamanomics is right. I don't qualify for South Dakota's version of the high-risk pool gov't insurance policy because the state's program only supports a list of about 20 illnesses and schizphrenia is not one of them.

I started as a trainee at WalMart yesterday. Tomorrow I'll be a full-time truck unloader. Hopefully the benefits package will help a lot.

I've loaded and unloaded many a truck myself. Not anyone's first choice for a job, but its good to have full time work in this so called recession. Good luck!

ps: do you get a discount on their fine merchandise? :D

pps: hope you can still check out AmiWest this fall.
