Yeah, I did understood that :-)

However, if you are not into things like setting up smb networking (or otherwise) then the only other reasonable solution is to simply use a pendrive, mount it (in)to your VM using vbox and read/write data from/to it in order to exchange data.

All other 'convenient' methods do require you to setup/configure at least something in order for that to work, be it networking or other communication.

Unfortunately I never was able to figure out what/how VirtualBox actually exposes its interface to the host OS to be bale to implement a better solution.

Wait 05 is important, otherwise the mount may fail (depending on the connection speed).

Yes, that is a good idea, at least when you expect the mounts to be available at boot time.

Magorium, I would like to make a small request. Could you kindly bring wbXcli to 64-bit? Thank you.

You made that request before (no harm in repeating ) and unfortunately the same answer (still) applies (https://www.arosworld.org/infusions/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=1431&highlight=wbxcli&pid=8694#post_8699). Unfortunately the situation regarding the compiler hasn't changed (though it seems there is at least some progress though it is still miles away from an actual release of the compiler).

In short: as long as FPC does not acknowledge ABIv11 then there's a problem which needs to be fixed/addressed and I am personally (only) able to do that on a (upcoming) stable release. And the last requirement also implies that my previous commits to the compiler are back-ported to that release (otherwise I would have to start over adding support for ABIv11 to the compiler).

Hello magorium, welcome back to the forum. I don't run SMB2 from a USB stick; I need the USB stick to copy it to various AROS systems, both on native PCs and on virtual machines.

My procedure is to copy the Mountlist (SMB2) to Storage/DOSDrivers and a small script to WBStartup, which includes this command:

Wait 05
Mount SMB2:

Wait 05 is important, otherwise the mount may fail (depending on the connection speed).

Magorium, I would like to make a small request. Could you kindly bring wbXcli to 64-bit? Thank you.

@OlafSch:
In order for shared folders to work, virtualbox requires the guest additions. These guest additions do not exist on/for AROS.

So as some already mentioned there is the options:
- pen-drive
- SMB2 (or any other network related protocol/implementation that offers communication with the host or another remote (scp, ftp, etc).

If you are old-school, another option I guess, is using a serial port (can be virtual) and re-route the traffic to whatever software that is able to serial communicate. I personally haven't used that in a long time though so no idea if that still works (technically it should but vbox development has the habit of breaking things on a whim :Frown ).

I personally always use AMIGASYSTEM's solution but with a small twist (I got tired of never being able to locate a pen-drive when you need one):
I run a second virtualboxVM (a very small one that runs a very tiny Linux distro ~50 mb) that has both SMB and the virtualbox guest-additions installed so that the small linux vm can directly access the host-memory (ram-disk, used to store the files, optionally a hdd directory for files that won't fit in the ram-disk) by using VBox shared folders and expose those shared folders to the vbox network with smb so that the linux VM becomes sort of a gateway.
Note though that there is a difference between smb1 and smb2 (these are not compatible) that could cause issues with (mixing) older/newer windows versions and old/new smb.

The Pendriver is as convenient and simple as an ISO or DVD, but the best solution is undoubtedly SMB2 (see video). You can share folders or network drives. This DOS driver can be carried on a pen drive and used on any PC with native AROS, VMware, VirtualBox, Qemu, but also on Amiga OS3, OS4, WinUAE, practically anywhere.

In prefs you don't need to activate anything.

The flash drive must be formatted as FAT.

If you have a larger flash drive, you can format it with this tool:

Hi, I take an USB stick or a Flash Card, register it in the USB (2.0 / 3.0) tab and then add it to the running system under Devices.

Probably the simplest method is to simply use a USB flash drive to exchange the data

Hello,

I try to fiddle around with AROS native X86 (ABI0). I have installed newest version of Virtualbox and installed AROS in it. It works perfectly and fast. Problem is how can I exchange data between host (Windows) and VM (AROS). I have created a shared folder but it is not shown inside. What do I have to do to make shared folder accessible inside AROS? Any ideas?

Olaf
