At the weekend I had a chance to see FE 68k running on an A600GS and, although I didn't get a chance to try everything, it does look like the bugs present in the x86 version are not in the 68k version.

Cheers,
Nigel.

I've just bought the full version of FW and have been trying it out. As mentioned above, fist thing you notice is it's fast; no spash screens while loading, straight into the program, and very nippy in use.

The feature list is also a lot more extensive than I expected (this is the first time I've used FW). In particular the graphics tools do much more than one might expect of a word processor (rather than DTP) including being able to stack and group objects and I really like how easy it is to ceate and edit tables. The user interface is nicely laid out too, although the buttons are a little small on a high resolution screen (I guess a carry over from its classic origins),

I have had some crashes, in particular occasionally when pressing cancel for a requester the progrm will freeze. I've reported this via e-mail and been informed that they are aware of the missing files in the zip and that will be corrected soon.

There's no manual; you can find PDF scans of old manuals here https://www.amibay.com/threads/digitized-manuals-final-writer-manual-r3-addendum.2445228/ although this is for an oder version than the new FW is based on.

Even with the occasional bug I'd say this is definitely worth $50 and I for one will find it very useful.

Cheers,
Nigel.

P.S. I've had some inconsistent resullts with exporting to PDF which seems to have been resolved by copying the FW libs and fonts to libs: and fonts: rather than just adding them to the assigns.

P.P.S. also with export to PDF, this is slow on second run of the program. The behaviour has been reported. Edit: fix is to keep FW's fonts in a seperate drawer and add this to the fonts: path. FE has it's own fontcache in it's font's draw; having this seperate sppeds up PDF export massively. However, PDF output is corrupted for any objects on the page (e.g. bitmaps) for any page except the first.

P.P.P.S. tex paste does not work - freezes the program and takes system memory down to nearly 0.

Browser is OWB and compute is AROS... ;-)

It could be my {insert very, very rude word} internet provider - I've had issues with a few missing e-mails, including ones requested by 'phone so no possibility of an issue there. If push comes to shove I might try to re-regsiter with a different e-mail.

Nigel.

I just tried that - the site is refusing to let me login (its been a while since I posted there but I know the login details are correct) and 'send password' is not working (nothing is being sent to my inbox) - very frustrating!

Cheers,
Nigel.

I've download the demo. For anyone lese doing this please not you also need to download the 68k veriosn too s some of the required files to run are missing from the x86 ABI0 verison, You also need to add FWFonts to fonts: and add the libs folder for FW to libs:

Overall I'm very impressed, very fast and lots of features. However, I've had some crashes too - does anyone know where I can post bug reports?

Cheers,
Nigel.
