I'm testing on "regular" GTX 750 not "Ti". My card has 1GB RAM. Vendor is Gigabyte.

@deadwood - So I have 1 month to get 3D acceleration working in stable way ^^

Can you remind me what NVidia card you have right now?
Can you purchase GTX 750 or GTX 650 card?

I have the 8400 plus the GTX970.

I'll have a look on ebay for a 750 or 650. I'll also pop into my IT department at college see if they've one being thrown out. The amount of e-waste just because Microsoft says 'too old' is terrifying...

Cheers,
Nigel.

P.S. Thinking ahead, where would I find Doom3 64 bit? I can't see it on AROS Archives. Many thanks.

If you have GTX 970 then hold off on getting other card unless you can get it for free. I'm now going to look into firmware loading to get the GTX 9xx series booting. If this fails then 7xx is your best bet,

Thanks, I'll hold off getting anything else for the moment. I did ask at work but unfortunately they ae not doing any age disposal this year.

Nigel.

Many thanks. I did see that but I thought an upload back in '24 was too long ago for current 64 bit developments. I guess it was ahead of it's time ;-)

Nigel.

We have stable ABI and stable API for Mesa and Mesa hides driver details from application so everything works as expected. Smile

Please try booting your GTX 950 with this driver. Note: driver is UNSTABLE, but it is good enough to boot my GTX 950 into Wanderer.

https://axrt.org/development/nouveau.hidd-20260702-49.1.zip

To use the driver you will have to first install NVidia firmware:

https://axrt.org/development/NVidia-firmware.zip

NVidia directory goes into DEVS:Firmware

It's alive :-) Boots in Wanderer with no fuss and I can change screen modes although the machine quickly locks up after this (but you did say it is unstable). Thank you!

By the way this is a GTX 970.

Cheers,
Nigel.

Good, thanks for tests. I'll focus on solving the instability now. Please also try if 3D is working for you (keep the original 1024x768 resolution). 3D games should starts ~50% time.

I gave Tilt 'n' Roll a go - it worked really well with o grphical glitches and I was able to play several rounds, although the machine did lock up after I exited the game.

Cheers,
Nigel.

P.S. gears runs at over 3800 FPS. Oddly though teapot runs vey slowly - just 8 FPS.

I fixed a kernel bug that caused general instability in software (and especially in software playing audio - like games). I'll produce a fixed kernel for you for the presentation. Can you tell me if you 64-bit AROS installation for the presentation will be based of 20250418 + U3 or from a nightly build?

I think I've seen that bug on 32 bit - the machine will ocasionally lock up when playing audio with no particular pattern to the crash. Great to hear it's been squished :-)

I'll be using the releae which had the first version of the 64 bit Gallium driver, i.e. the one from https://arosworld.org/infusions/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=1966&rowstart=0#post_11925.

Nigel.

Here is update kernel for 64-bit: https://axrt.org/development/tmp/kernel.gz

It should work with your installation (backup original in boot/pc/ and the copy this one there)

If it doesn't work for some reasong, please install 17.07 nightly on your demo machine.

I've installed the new kernel and I'm not finding any issues with either my i5 laptop or i7 tower. Many thanks :-)

i7 is set up ready for the Derby show: Doom3, GLexcess, AB3D and a DVD all running together in 1080p on a big TV :-)

Nigel.

Back from the Derby show. The tables were rather smaller than the group had been led to believe so the display was a bit crammed in (see piccy) but at least the massively overloaded power sockets didn't burst into flames Smile

Not quite as busy as the Zzap show but quite well attended nonethless and the attendees were rather more informed about what AROS is, I guess because this was specifically an Amiga show.

A good number of people were interested in AROS and a surprised but positive reaction to the latest developments (64 bit, USB3 and the 3D capabilities on display via Doom3 + glexcess really impressed).

Many people said they had old laptops, netbooks or desktops gathering dust and they seemed quite enthused at putting them to use with AROS (I pointed them towards AROSone and TinyAROS here); others had old installations and I encouraged them to update. People were also unaware of how capable 64 bit OWB is, which I was remedied through demonstration.

There was some surprise at the pace of recent developments - I made sure to point out the record number of commits last year.

Although despite Herculean efforts by bsek the RPi zero 2W didn't have USB for the show I put it on display and that also generated a lot of positive responses.

One interesting thing is that there was good interest from member of other user groups, i.e. poeple who are invested in 68k hardware. Once more it was the idea of resuing an old computer to use that was enticing. Maybe people are finally coming around to the idea that as an Amiga enthusiast you don't need to limit yourself to just classics.

Steve Jones was at the show and I had an interesting conversaiton with him; it seems he's keen to start being more actively involved with AROS again.

So a good expereince and hopefully a few new members showing up here as a result of it.

Cheers,
Nigel.

Welcome done on the table showed all aspects of Aros today and the time and effort expended to make this happen.

The table is packed but looks great! Thanks again for doing this and for the report.

Interviews, FB group going back alive, event particiation, articles - let's keep that great momentum in media presense going on!

If anyone is doing any other social media for AROS, let us know!
