I wrote a small program inspired by AveNTP to update the Raspberry Pi's system clock from the internet at system startup. It works Smile
I'll upload it to the archives.

I see the license listed in the archives is Freeware. Are you planning to make sources available so that when there are compatibility-breaking changes to ABIv1 in future someone else can re-compile the software? Smile

I noticed yesterday that there is already a similar program in the contrib package—it's called NTPSync or SyncNTP. It seems to be the same thing. I can certainly share my source code, but I don't think it's necessary anymore.

Hi,

Thanks for making this as I got nowhere with ntpsync.

Can you confirm I have setup pintp correctly?

pintp -v goodtime.ijs.si

as this starts with [Info] line and shortly later crashes Aros

I usually used the -s parameter and didn't have any issues; I'll have to check -v sometime.
Try
pintp -s goodtime.ijs.si
or
pintp -s 193.2.4.2

@Bohun I've tried it on 6 Oct nightly (684b78f8) on Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ and when I run the pintp binary no matter what arguments, system hangs. Other applications like Amelinium work fine, network is working too. Raspberry is connected via ethernet (usblan78xx.device)

Indeed, with the latest nightly build, pintp causes the system to freeze. Ntpsync, on the other hand, can't connect to servers. I'll try rebuilding the toolchain to use the new arosa sources and recompiling pintp, but I don't know if it will be successful.

Since I noticed that ntpsync wasn't working properly, I've published the source code for my program. Perhaps someone would like to use it. I've set the MIT license. Does it conflict with the AROS license?

New version: https://piaros.amiga.icu/files/System/pintp.zip

usage: pintp -s -z 7200 162.159.200.123

7200 means +2 hours (7200 seconds) from UTC

@Bohun Works fine, thank you! Smile

I think such a time synchronizer should be integrated with the Prefs/Clock app. Perhaps my source code would be helpful? I'd modify it slightly to read the time zone from the settings and automatically add the additional time to UTM.

I've modified the system Time (Prefs) to update the time from the internet. The offset to UTC is pre-populated from the time zone settings. All that remains is to account for daylight saving time changes (summer/winter time).
