I’m not an Amiga superfan, and I’m certainly not a programmer. I’m just an ordinary user who happened to cross paths with the Amiga years ago — and somehow, it left a permanent mark.

Before the Amiga, there was Atari. Later came the PC. I still remember the moment when I realized the Amiga had lost the battle. For me, that moment was Wolfenstein 3D. Funny how one game can become a historical landmark in your personal computer history. 😉

Looking back now, I have to admit that the PC won. It became the universal, mass-market machine — practical, powerful, everywhere. But there’s something it never quite had, something the Amiga always seemed to possess: soul.

That’s why I have a lot of admiration for the people behind AROS, and I sincerely wish them the best. I’m currently running the bootable USB version from aros.games on my Lenovo P53 laptop, and I’m eagerly waiting for the latest AROS distribution. My plan is to install it on an SSD alongside Windows 11. Because apparently, after all these years, I still enjoy making my computer life unnecessarily interesting. 😄

And I have one slightly unrealistic dream: an AROS version that could be installed on a touchscreen tablet alongside Android. I have a Lenovo Tab Plus TB351FU, and seeing AROS running on that kind of device would be absolutely fantastic.

So no, I’m not a hardcore Amiga enthusiast, and I’m not a developer. I’m simply one of those ordinary users who, after all these years, still remembers that computers can be more than just machines.

Sometimes, they can have a soul.

Hi Octavo,
Maybe not Android but on x86/x64 or an RPi should be possible, provided you can find an egalax compatable touch screen interface (4-wire resistive). This works on 32 bit (x86) and is being looked at for 64 bit. An alternative I'm going to be exploring soon is AR1100 devices - apparently they can pretend to bea USB mouse. Anyway, touchscreen is possible on AROS (I have it on my Samsung netbook

Quick answer: I found out about AROS Portable thanks to ChatGPT. 😄

The longer answer is a bit more complicated.
I came back to the Amiga world about three years ago, when I installed Amiga Game Selector on my desktop PC (AMD 5800X, RTX 5080).

It worked brilliantly, so about a year later I did the same thing on my laptop, mainly because I wanted a more mobile way of playing.

Two weeks ago, I decided to take it one step further and move my Amiga gaming to an even lighter mobile device — an Android tablet. That’s how I discovered RetroArch.

Up until that point, I hadn’t really read any Amiga forums or followed the community.

Then I started talking to ChatGPT, and that’s when things got interesting. 😄 It made me realize that the Amiga is actually still alive — that operating systems are still being developed: MorphOS, AROS… It explained all sorts of nuances about hardware emulation, and one thing led to another.

And that’s how I ended up here. I created a profile because I’d like to follow what you guys are doing and keep up with your progress.

AROS Portable is fantastic, by the way. Even when I’m not playing games, I sometimes just turn on the built-in radio and let the music play for hours. There’s something strangely satisfying about that. 😊

And since I’m here, I also have two quick questions:
1. How can I enable the screensaver? I couldn’t find an option for it anywhere.
2. Is there any way to use ChatGPT through the built-in browser? For some reason, I just can’t get it to launch.

Hello and welcome

screensaver in aros is normally the commodity "blanker" you find in sys:utilities/commodities. You simple copy it including info file in WBStartup and restart
