Hello AROS dwellers,

This thread is to track a few issues still present on the newest CMS used for this site. A few have been fixed and applied already (i.e. HTML tags in PMs, posting for members in forums, etc. etc.)

There are still other issues lingering but if you find any, please reply to this thread and I will do my best to address it or report it to the CMS developers.

What has been acknowledged and being worked on is:

  • Members can reset passwords but cannot change it in "Editing Profile"

I came across an issue that must be one of the most annoying and frustrating things that one has to face in live.

The text preview cripples me as an individual. It has a dislike for my left arm, and therefor just chops it off, and doing so without my consent.... even worse it doesn't even ask me if i would rather live with my left arm attached.

So... never again will we be able to \o/ cheer \o/ with both arms in preview mode.

People are now forced to live on without being able to experience a good cheer in preview mode, and that saddens me.

As a countermeasure, i am now going outside and am going to experience a bit of sunshine. then all should be good again Smile

PS: but on a more serious note, i haven't experience any functional limitations yet, other than mentioned. I'm still looking for them though Pfft

\\o/ cheer \\o/

Try adding an extra left arm to escape the backslash. The single slash is a security risk and can be used as a SQL injection command. As a result, the single slash is not interpreted as a command and shows black but putting the extra slash tells the CMS it is intended as plain text and not a command.

I have attached a snippet of the code of the two cheers at top of this text.

Actually, I just realized the problem only exists in preview mode and not after posting the reply. I'll report that to the devs.

Thank you for your post Magorium.

I actually found another issue: I had the choice to edit my post right after I posted it. I tried to edit it and it didn't change. I tried to re-edit and the option is not available anymore?

hmmmm one more for the devs.

Thank you.

Indeed because now the post itself is mutilating my body, attaching another arm Pfft

That is the deep kind of meditation. I haven't been doing that yet. I would have to sharpen my pencil first for being able to do that. Now I feel sad again Grin

Most certainly sounds like it.

Thank you.

This is actually resolved. It was a config change I had made during troubleshooting of another issue and had it left it like that.

New 'issue', if you can call it that.

Whenever you edit your post, then switch to preview mode, the message-editor's toolbar stays active.

Perhaps not an issue you might think, until you start pressing all these nice buttons. Then switch back to text-mode. How nice that all actions where actually performed while viewing the post in preview mode.... now to remember where you put that cursor before you went to preview mode (and as such which part of your post was being messed up).

In preview mode you are able to select text, so perhaps expected that highlighted text to be 'italised', 'bolded' or 'underlined' but , nope Smile

PS: i am still completely disoriented by the word-wrapping acrobatics of preview mode btw Pfft

@amigamia

Seems that posting issues are almost gone. I was able to post 6 replies. Once, after hitting Post Reply the page just re-loaded but hitting Post Reply again created the post correctly.

Yes most of the issues have been corrected after I rebuilt the site and stitched together MySQL database tables to match the new format. There are still a few small things here and there but MUCH better than before. Thanks for your feedback

Thank you for reporting this Magorium! This has been reported already (deadwood reported it first) and possible solutions also tried but to no avail. I tried until I couldn't anymore and reported it to the developer. The code tag is a known problem when it comes to spacing and indentention of lines of codes. Luckily for the smileys there is an option to disable them on publish.

Oh, ok I wasn't aware the issue already had been reported. I am sorry to hear that you are unable to solve it yourself and actually a bit surprised to hear that there hasn't been an update for it that fixes the issue.

As a rant, it has been many years now (I believe over a decade now) that the code-highlighting and other thread related features are misbehaving and misbehaving in such a way that it seems to become worse and worse. Mind you that is my personal opinion and I am biased to software that actually does not get in your face each time you try to accomplish something simple (such as writing a post that contains some simplified lined-out text).

On another note, what you posted is not actually code. I don't understand why not using regular text with Bold, Italic, and Underline tags and/or other options for text sizes to highlight the lines, etc. etc.

Because the other option that is available to line out the text as posted at the position of the colon sign is to use teletype, and that did not actually displayed the teltyped txt as teletype but simply applies a smaller size to the existing font.

I simply refuse to write out html code in order to display data in a tabular format (and which probably get's half-arsed filtered out because of security reasons) and the day I need to make a printscreen of my post in my local used editor, upload the picture to a 3th party site to be able to attach to a post will be the day that I'll stop using computers alltogether :-)

I am probably still missing something (obvious ?) here, but please someone enlighten me as how to present data in a tabular format in a post.

PS: highly off-topic now which was not my intention.

Moved this post in this thread so I can respond without hijacking AROS One thread... at work right now but will continue this here later...

Hi @magorium,

No offense but I think you are making this a bigger problem than it really is. The same argument you make about this site could be made of AROS itself. It has been more than a decade and while it is much more advanced than years ago, it still suffers many drawbacks, instability, and not a wide adoption by the AMIGA user base. Yet, I don’t go around and complain about that, I continue to provide my support where I can and ask where I can provide help.

I am not saying what has been reported is an issue to neglect, but I want to remind you that this is completely a volunteer work. I don’t ask for money or any donations while covering the hosting and domain expenses and providing daily maintenance out of my already busy schedule/life.

This site was quiet for many years until all users from old Aros-Exec jumped on board here because AE.org was going to go dark. I adapted as best as I could to features coming from other CMS used for AE.org. To protect knowledge from the past, I brought back from the dead the very first Aros-exec.org which was gone for years, and the second iteration of it from ae.amigalife.org.

If you really must know, the CMS used for this site (PHP-Fusion 9.10.20) is barely on life support from the only developer who still maintains it (it's a one-man job as this very site). Updates have not been published for the past 3 to 4 years (Go visit www.phpfusion.com to see in what state it is). While there is an effort to bring PHP-Fusion to a newer version, the work is slow and far in between. Questions about bugs reported here have been submitted but they go unanswered for a long time and when an answer is posted, it’s never the solution I am expecting.

I have been evaluating alternatives such as SMF, MyBB, PHPBB, Flarum, and others but the migration is not a straightforward process. There is a lot of MySQL tables manipulation which require a lot of time and testing. It’s a work cut for DBAs who get paid thousands for this type of work. Despite all that, I have successfully managed to export forum tables from PHP-Fusion into SMF but after all that work, I came to realize that SMF is full of bugs, security holes, and other issues that I have discovered along the way. I have started testing the same process with MyBB, which seems to have better support with regular updates but it’s still a work in progress.

That said, the issues reported here are more inconveniences than critical blockers. There are workarounds available for the time being, and I am hopeful that migrating to the new framework will help address them more fully. In the meantime, I encourage you and everyone to approach this with patience and mutual respect, and to recognize the effort that has been invested in AROS as a community project.

Thank you!

Thanks for your great work at maintaining all this stuff!

You might consider to use some of such "AI" (sic!) tools, which nowadays have reached a good level of usage and look like very good buddies for those kind of (boring, honestly) operations.
