Hi all,

Hope this is the right place to ask this. Is there a way to extend the partition size of the AROS portable distro?

I've tried with GParted / EaseUS and both seem to corrupt the EXT4 partition data & then the install fails to boot after that.

I've tried a few different USB drives, all genuine Sandisk etc, with no luck - I just want to use the the full space of this 32GB key if possible...

Hello Simon Welcome to arosworld. Which AROS portable are you referring to?

Thanks for the quick response!

I'm writing this image to a 32GB USB key;

20250830-arosportable64.img

Which gives me;

538MB EFI
14.65 GB EXT4
13.48 GB Unallocated/Unused

If I attempt to extend the EXT4 partition, it gets corrupted - is this even feasible...?

Simon.

You can do that, but you will also have to repair the partition table.

The question is, what do you want to achieve? Do you need more space for AROS data? Because then simply extending the Linux partition will not be enough.

I can prepare a larger image for you, which will have more space for AROS right away, if you want.

I was hoping that I could copy some extra data to the root of the larger [EXT4] partition and then be able access that from within AROS / DOPUS somehow... or am I barking up the wrong tree? Smile

No, AROS does not have access to Linux partitions there

@retrofaza

Question: could you create a FAT or NTFS partition so that AROS can access it, or a shared partition on the Linux side that AROS could access via SMB2? I do all this with Windows.

No, in AROS Portable, the user should not have access to Linux partitions on a USB flash drive. Why would they?

For users who want to use Linux at the same time, there are other solutions (AROS Linux hosted, Virtual Box, etc.).

You can download the extra data directly from the Internet or (easiest) use a second USB flash drive to copy the data.

Ahhhh, ignorance is bliss! Smile

Many thanks for the explanation(s) - I guess I'll just setup a portable Linux distro and install onto that instead... Like

All the best, Simon.

I wasn't referring to the use of Linux, but only to the possibility of sharing data. Perhaps you need files that OWB cannot download, or you need to use data from a network hard drive or shared on the network. I do this easily with Qemu, but also with native AROS.
