Yet another flavor, or an aros that is not aros anymore ...

Hi,
I was thinking of how desireable would be to have aros using modern arch features like mutlitasking and mmu, and i know it would break source code level compatibility (so, it wouldnt be aros anymore, in that sense), but otoh you could have a path ahead, and you could still have source code compatibility using those shared library aproaches (arix or AxRuntime) and binary compatibility with something like emu68, and yet, maybe someone can even make an assembly level compatibility (i dont think so, but ...)

opinions?

??? AROS has multitasking and protects unused memory areas with the mmu.

i was thinking of make use of new processors specifics ABI (not sure if ABI would be the term), the idea was to have an AROS that could use the modern features of processors, i dont know how exactly this would be, but probably a redesigned amigaos.

the idea was to free from the legacy design that doesnt allow the full use of new devices resources, if its not the case maybe its more 68k specific (i mean, there is n 68k-64bits, and memory size restrictions)

i got a little inspired of thinking what a modern amiga would be https://github.co...ga/MC64000

and had the impression that aros doesnt use processor specifics new feaures (preemptive multitasking, mmu and those registers abi) cause it rules of not break source level compatibility.

i really not sure what i am talking about! Smile
