After a lot of hard work, thanks to I.A., I managed to get the midi.datatype working on AROS 64-Bit v11.

Multiview opens the MIDI file, but there’s no sound because I don’t have dedicated hardware, and I don’t know if there are ways to make it work without dedicated hardware, either on AROS VM or natively.

If anyone would like to test the midi.datatype, just let me know.

If it works, I’ll try to port it to AROS ABIv0 and AROS 68k as well.

What do you mean "dedicated hardware" ? What audio hardware is required?

I'm no expert in this field, but I suppose you'd need a synthesizer or a sound module, or perhaps a software synthesizer.
As I said, I'm no expert, but on AROS 68k with the Amiga midi.datatypes, for example, MPlayer plays MIDI files because WinUAE includes the appropriate options.

So you can't just play a digital Midi file, it has to be real hardware?

MIDI files on AROS as well as on other operating systems, can be played either via hardware or via software.

For example, some players, such as my PlayerMidi-GUI, as well as the WildMidi command, play MIDI files using the Timidity software instruments.

In addition, you need drivers to play MIDI files using a hardware tuner.

The same is true on the Amiga; without hardware, some players use the Timidity or GMPlay instruments.

If you’ve installed AROS One, click on the MIDI file icon and you’ll see them play (via a script and the WildMidi player).

On i386 there's the MIDI driver so full support, on x86_64 no. Then, as hardware, you need a USB cable connected to a GM module.

No, on 32-bit systems, there are usbmidi and debug drivers just like the ones on 64-bit systems.

On Archives there's a USBMIDI package that's used to work with MIDI software, but it's only 32-bit, and Barnspipes is too. The debug file needs to be removed for it to work properly.
