Distribution: AspireOS 1.97 - Revelation (update 4)Print

AROS

AspireOSNikolaos Tomatsidis announced a new update package for his AspireOS distribution and made it available for us to download.

AspireOS is a lightweight distribution, originally designed for netbooks such as the Acer Aspire One but could run on other machines as well. It tries to keep things as simple as possible and the programs included are well tested.

This update package brings a fix for some NVidia graphicscards, adds faster graphics, a brand new updated ESI Juli@ soundcard driver, Mazze's new help command and an up-to-date kernel.

Users with an existing AspireOS 1.97 installation can download the Update-Package and update their 1.97 installation whilst new users need to download the Complete 1.97 distribution, install it and thereafter apply the update package.

More information about installing AspireOS can be read on the installation-instructions page.

Optionally the AspireOS game-package can be downloaded to expand your ASpireOS installation with some very nice games.

Download: AspireOS Distribution 1.97 (148 MB, Complete AspireOS distribution)
Download: AspireOS Update Package 4 (7,1 MB, update package for existing 1.97 installations)
Download: AspireOS Game package 1.1 (144 MB, Optional)

I've been always fascinated by aspireos.
Its lightness and speed are a trademark for this wonderful distribution that makes it almost a totally different os from both plain aros and icaros/aeros.
Great work, really a great work!

The initial setup is indeed completely different.

If you wanted to then you could shape every AROS distro in a lightweight variation, but it is really nice to see that AspireOS does it by default.

i really should use it on a more daily base, but i have only on native machine that unfortunately has that other distro installed on it :/

I have it installed in a vm though Grin

@magorium

Can you change the network device in your VM installation?

It doesn't work in mine, although it works for Icaros with the same VM configuration.

@emeck:

sure i can check that for you. any specific version of AspireOS ?

(in general i don't seem to have any problems with it as i normally have them virtuals connected amongst eachother).

Thanks, it is the latest, Revelation update v.4 and this is the thread I've reported the problem in Aros-Exec if you want to check it:
http://aros-exec.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?start=0&topic_id=8118&viewmode=flat&order=ASC&type=&mode=0

Under Icaros everything works fine with the same config, but not for AspireOS and networking.

@emeck:

Just checked plain 1.97 (as i did not update ShockopsSmile and indeed it sometimes hangs on the save button. Not being unpressed, so things do indeed not get saved properly.

Strange as i had it configured correctly, only when i started removing my existing config, making a bogus one, removing it again and re-applying correct config it hanged :/

I will update later on and check also how that behaves. good catch emeck...

@magorium

I misunderstood the news. Thought update 4 was included in the LiveCD download but is not, so it is needed after a fesh install.

Posting with OWB from AspireOS update 4! Grin

@magorium

I understood by "update package for existing 1.97 installations" that those who downloaded and installed the LiveCD before the update 4 was available must download and install the update; but after the update 4 was available that it was included in a new LiveCD iso. Maybe because Icaros has included patches in later iso images I assumed the same here.

I'll try with a fresh install. Maybe I have left Icaros drivers or prefs files somewhere.

@emeck

about the news, hmz... i have no idea how to write it better. Perhaps my language skills are to little in that regards ?

Don't bother re-installing Smile

I figured it out. i updated while driver was active and although that should not matter on AROS it did anyways.

removing every connection, saving, rebooting (without driver), applying update, rebooting and configuring the driver again (saving every little tiny step + reboot) solved it.

Something i always tell others to do but i forgot to do myself Shock
