Distribution: Icaros Desktop 1.5.1 (patch 01 mandatory)Print

Paolo Besser released an emergency patch for the latest Icaros Desktop version 1.5.1 due to a severe issue with the FAT-handler that could cause issues for people using FAT12 or FAT16 formattted devices.

In short this patch includes a new fixed FAT handler.

Because of the critical nature of this issue Paolo decided to release this patch as a seperate download, as well as updated all the complete distributions that he provides on his download-page.

This means that new users of Icaros Desktop should download the newest (and patched) version of Icaros Desktop 1.5.1 (also called Icaros Desktop 1.5.1-1) while people that already have installed the Icaros Desktop 1.5 (also Legacy Kernel Edition) or Icaros Desktop 1.5.1 should run this mandatory patch 01 as soon as possible (you can stay with Icaros Desktop version 1.5 if you want but patch 01 is mandatory).

To make it more convenient Paolo also released a patched 1.5.1 update package (to upgrade your existing Icaros Desktop 1.5 installation to version 1.5.1) which already includes patch 01. Please note that 1.5 LKE cannot be updated to 1.5.1 due to technical differences in the kernels

For more information see this blogentry from Paolo about the discovery and this blogentry for more information about the patch.

I've just downloaded and installed Icaros 1.5.1, running fine under QEmu (I had to select stdVGA for the video card instead of Default after installation for better behaviour under QEmu).

Only problem so far is using LiveUpdater. After running it an IconX window appear with the message

wget: object not found

And another window

Automatic Update Failure
Icaros Desktop Live Updater couldn't retrieve needed informations and files from the Internet. Update will stop.

The VM is set with RTL3189 and that is the selected device in Network Preferences. OWB works perfectly.

Otherwise working really good AFAICT. Thank you guys for the update!

Edit: I'm running QEmu under Debian Wheezy/Sid

Thank you for the report emec

I wanted to say it's perhaps better to report this over at the ae website, until i read you already did in the comments Grin

Nevertheless i've send paolone a pm to give it some more attention. I'm sure he will appreciate the bugreport.
