Distribution: Icaros Desktop 1.5Print

Icaros DesktopPaolo Besser released an exciting and brand new version of his Aros distribution Icaros Desktop, which brings it completely up-to-date.

Icaros Desktop is a complete distribution and comes on a bootable live DVD/CD-ROM that runs directly on a PC or in a virtual machine such as VMWare or VirtualBox. It can be installed on the hard drive and can coexist with installed OSes such as Windows or in a dedicated partition.

One of the most exciting new things is that this version is based on the latest kernel backport made by Deadwood, and also the GRUB bootmenu was updated. But in fact so many things were changed in this new release that it's simply to much to mention them all. Paolo provided a nice list of all changes.

Please notice that this version needs a complete installation, so this release cannot be used to update an excisting Icaros Desktop. Also please note that Paolo provided an extra download called LKE (Legacy Kernel Edition) for those that have difficulty using the new kernel from Icaros on their system. The LKE edition could be usefull in such situations, although this LKE version is not fully supported.

Also the Light version of Icaros Desktop is available for those who find it more convienent to have a smaller distribution (but ofcourse this version lacks some features available on the full distribution).

For an overview between the different downloads/versions click here.

Downloads removed as precaution. Please see Icaros Desktop 1.5.1 patch 01.
